Reasons to begin "going japanese" part 2

Peter and I have noticed the abundant number of beautiful parks that fill Japan.  Just look at this park that Peter is enjoying.... I say beautiful.  Who needs Freestone.  Not me and certainly not any child in Japan, we'll stick with our dirt lots thank you.

The vegetation here is amazing.  Japan is one giant solid bush.  The trees, flowers and other plants are like nothing I have ever seen. 

(that flower probably comes from the states) 

The country is already set up for the blind! Just in case, at least I know I could still get around.  

I can still reach my goals of becoming a domestic diva! This was my first attempt at making something is my microven (thats microwave and oven combined).  I wasn't convinced that the futuristic microven would really bake stuff.  Its a really strange appliance. 

ps- this is banana bread, not meat loaf.

Japan really is great and we are having a fantastic time.  But we really really miss you all.

Gone Fishing!

While at the grocery store last night Peter and i caught sight of this fish wiggling around in its wrapper. live fish in a bucket? ok. live fish in styrofoam and plastic? only in japan.

I pointed it out to an old woman, she humored me by laughing a little.... she was probably just laughing at me.

Hello from Japan! 

A few things have happened in the past 6 days, things have been a little crazy....to say the least.

1. Once we landed in Tokyo bunch of freaky deaky bird flu inspectors came on the plane with this device that checked everyone’s temperature. Honestly, it kind of felt like the end of E.T. when all of those scientists were dressed in those suits.  Needless to say, it wasn’t the warmest of welcomes. 

2. Our first day in Japan was spent with some fellow teachers (Chris & Courtney) who had been living in our city up until about two weeks ago.  They were actually extremely kind and very good with giving us good information about how to live in our city.  They made sure our first meal in Japan was nice and comforting...we ate McDonalds, and it was amazing. I never thought a cheese burger and fries could taste so good. McDonalds in Japan is actually very good, not like in the states. I might just be fooling myself who knows. 

3. That car that I showed you guys pictures of was way too small for Peter so I have had to decline driving for right now.  I don't have a picture right now of Peter in the car but just try and put yourself in one of those kiddy red cars and you get the idea. I will post a picture soon.

4. We take trains everywhere, which is the cause of a lot of confusion.  Since we can’t read Japanese we have to go off of the cost of tickets that we’ve found on the internet and the times that we know the train is arriving and departing.  An excellent example of how confusing this can be happened today when Peter and I hopped on a train that we thought would take us home after going to church in the town next to us and ended up crossing the ocean to the main island. However, we have decided to take things as they come. So when we realized that we were headed across the ocean (on the world’s largest suspension bridge nonetheless) we just laughed about it and enjoyed the ride.

5. As for the actual job, all I can say is that I work with a bunch of Japanese kids (most of them being no older than seven) that have short attention spans.  We kind of feel like a glorified babysitter right now. But its fun and leaves of with a lot of free time.

what a dream come true!

Peter and I for probably the first time ever, had TWO fun weekends in a row.  

Weekend 1:

After two years together we finally ventured to the Hogal Zoo.  It was 65 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, and despite the small size of the hogle zoo I was very impressed with their exibits.

This is a Red Panda, my new favorite animal. It is a mix between a panda, raccoon and bear. 

Peter was very embarrassed making growling faces for this picture, it took at least 5 tries to get it right.

Weekend 2:

Peter and I were able to score some tickets to the Saturday morning session of conference, this was also a first for us since we have been married. 

It was great to be able to do that before we leave.

Also we were so fortunate to have Shelly and Steve with us for the weekend. They came and joined us at One World for lunch and some shopping.  Sadly, One World was a huge disappointment, due to unfriendly staff. 

(this below is not Shelly and Steve) I tried to get a group picture but they wouldn't bunch together. So Steve and Peter, you got cut.

Bethany, Spongebob and a sunny afternoon

The highlight of my weekend, and possibly my whole month was having a Bethany show up on my doorstep, especially when she is wearing a leopard spandex body suit, that girl has a killer bod.  Our time together was short but I have no complaints, and really can't wait to return the favor in two months.

The rest of my weekend was spent watching the first season of Spongebob, which Peter and I have decided to use as a tool when teaching our children life lessons.  Peter took it to work today as a trial run, we are both expecting success. 

Is Japan ready for the Dangerfords?

So we are "officially" going to Japan! Well I don't know if it will be for real until we arrive in Japan. But we had our interviews and WE PASSED. We are not exactly sure when we are going or where we will be living but they say mid-May and we hope to find out soon what city we will be in. But I am very confident that all of Japan looks like this and will feel like I am living in a video game.

But in all seriousness I need to talk to all anyone that have lived away for months, especially in Asian countries, I am kinda getting nervous! But at the same time very excited, we are VERY ready to leave Provo and have an adventure. 

My wisdom....teeth?

I have to get my wisdom teeth out on the 23rd. This is something that I have been putting off for weeks because I am terrified. Why am I terrified you ask, heres why.

1. When peter got his wisdom teeth out they forgot a root and a few months after the surgery it just popped out!!!! thats filthy!

2. I had to drive shanna to her dentists one night after her surgery to get her dry sockets packed with medicated cotton, and the girl was in pain. Lets face it if shanna couldn't handle it there is no way my childlike body would be able to endure the agony. 

My last reason and biggest fear to end up with a "Steve Keslers wisdom teeth infection."  No one is really sure how it happened but all I know is that I dont want to go to the hospital and I sure dont want a goider. Steve if you have any tips to avoid the goider let me know.
